Reserves: Galaxy 4, Rapids 2

CARSON, Calif. - Herculez Gomez scored two goals and registered an assist as the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves stormed to a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids reserves on Sunday, Sept. 16 at The Home Depot Center, improving their record to 2-4-2 in 2006.

Mike Enfield started the scoring off in the 39th minute for the Galaxy, as Gomez lofted a pass from the left side of the penalty area to an on-rushing Enfield on the right. The open Enfield ran on to the ball and blasted a volley past Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Condoul for the 1-0 lead.

The Galaxy reserves exploded in the second half, as Gomez pushed the lead to 2-0 when he tapped in a rebound off an L.A. corner kick. Stefani Miglioranzi settled the Galaxy corner on the right corner of the box and powered a shot towards goal that deflected off several Rapids players and goalkeeper Matt Jordan before falling to Gomez on the left post, who then pushed it in.

Colorado cut the lead to 2-1 in the 72nn minute off a solid finish from Melvin Tarley, who received a pass behind the Galaxy defense and fired a shot from close range over Steve Cronin.

Three minutes later, the Galaxy extended its lead to 3-1 when Josh Hansen collected a loose ball in the box and launched a shot on goal from nearly 20 yards out. The ball took a deflection and skittered past Jordan for the goal.

Gomez put the finishing touches on the win in the 80th minute as he bent a perfect free kick from nearly 25 yards away over the Rapids wall and into the upper left corner of the goal to make it 4-1 and give the Galaxy reserves their first win since April 23 against Columbus.
