Picture this: Your team just emerged from one of the toughest scheduling stretches any team in MLS will face this season. The team captain has left for national team duties, and your coach has called on you to step up. Oh, and it will be the first MLS game of your career.
The Kansas City Wizards are looking to start a second-half run up the Eastern Conference standings, but it begins with a tough test as MLS overall leaders Houston Dynamo make an Independence Day visit.
27-year-old Abe Thompson has played in only four of the Wizards' 14 MLS matches this season after playing in all eight games, plus the two games in the MLS Cup Playoffs, after joining the side last year.
